CHICAGO
PUBLIC
ART
---\\\+O+///---

There seems to be more public art in Chicago, than in any other US city. It's nice. I love the concept. Except........except.......this gigantic
CALDER STABILE
is a monstrosity in every way. He should probably have stuck with mobiles, because those were all beautiful, and that's what he was great at.

Then there's this
PICASSO CREATURE
that contains a lot of ugly, disparate curves and no coherent design elements that might have united them into an aesthetic whole. Picasso should probably have stuck with flat art, which he was great at, because he didn't seem to get the hang of 3-dimensional works.

Do you think one has to see ugly art
in order to be able to recognize
and truly appreciate
the beautiful works of excellence?

I don't think so.
Then why did I post this ugly art?
I have no idea.

Do you think it's better for a city to have lots of ugly public art, than no public art at all?

YES

Ugly art opens the door to more art
some of which (as it has in Chicago)
will then turn out to be beautiful.
Like this
ANISH KAPOOR
sculpture.
